----------------- THE ARENA ----------------- Rowan 'Sumaleth' Crawford sumaleth@bigpond.net.au This project was my entry into the Quake3Arena 'chessboard' comp held by Katherine Anna Kang (of Fountainhead Entertainment - http://www.fountainheadent.com) in 1999. 'The Arena' is a lightly illustrated novella, taking whatever was known at the time about the Quake3 characters, locations and weapons, and weaving them into a serious, character driven story. All presented in the form of a simulated-game web page. This project was completed and submitted in July of 1999, a long time before Quake3 Arena was actually released, so the story and characters represented here were purely speculative and by no means canon to the Q3A world. I'm very happy to say that 'The Arena' won the competition! Woo! It has been a -long- time since I read this and it's likely to be filled with all manner of spelling errors, awkward phrasing, and incorrect punctuation. I hope it still proves to be a fun read. INSTRUCTIONS: . Uncompress the zip file with pathnames intact. . Open 'TheArena.htm' with your prefered web browser. . Get comfortable and begin the story with Episode 1. - Tested with Internet Explorer and Netscape. - Created for 1024x768, but should work at anything down to 640x480. - Recommended to be read in the evening (it's a little dark..).
